Melville 16 Hautapu 21

On paper not a good week end as both the Premiers and the Development went down to Hautapu 21-16 and 20-14 respectively. Having said that the Premier game was a great game of rugby played at a high level as one would expect of two very good teams. We certainly had the better of the first half and should have been further ahead than 10-3 which probably gave Hautapu some heart going into the second half. Their game lifted and the little bit of luck needed to win tight games came to their aid. The return game at Collins Road in the second round will give us the opportunity to reverse this result.

We now start on a series of local Hamilton derbies beginning with Varsity at home this Saturday. This game will see us play on what was our No 2 field. It has been promoted to No 1 after many years of TLC. Older members will recall the state this field used to be in and it is a credit to the Club that they have had the foresight to allocate funding to turn it into a first class field. The Mobile grandstand will be opened with the view of acknowledging the great support our Club sponsors are to us. The Development team will kick off proceedings at 1.00pm.
