Well I’ve got to say the Premier’s had a very good win over Fraser Tech by 39 – 5 after leading 20 -5 at halftime. Two things stood out for me – Much improved goal kicking by young Sevu Reece (6 out of 7 attempts) and tenacious defense. Both of these factors will be of huge importance […]
The Premier Netball team went down 26-32 to HGHS A in Saturdays latest Grading game. Likewise the Social team lost to Hukunui by 2 points. There is one more round of grading games to go.
A good win for Blazer and the boys on Saturday with a resounding win at Te Awamutu. Player of the Day Arran “Chewy” Tawhara scored 4 tries and capped off a good game with a typical MLV Sin Binning!
Melville Development absolutely thrashed top of the table Fraser Tech 50-8 on Saturday. It was a continuation of the form showed against Old Boys last week. Premier squad players Frank Ale, Travis Williamson, Cam Skelton, Dan Popping, Faraimo Tuifuah and Steve Cullingsworth all had great games and were well supported by the development players. Hats […]
There were some pretty smiley faces around the Clubrooms Saturday afternoon with the Stag Trophy coming back to Collins Road as a result of our Premiers giving Hamilton Old Boys a 38-10 tune up. Given previous results, we should have won this game but it doesn’t always work out like that. However on Saturday, it was fair to […]
It helps Melville supporters to have steady nerves and confidence when they watch the Premiers play on a Saturday. The game against Varsity was no exception. Up 14-0 after 20 minutes, it looked as though we then decided to even the game up by turning over possession and allowing the opposition plenty of opportunities which they took […]
Well two out of two with bonus points is not a bad start for the season. The Premiers win over Matamata by 46-14 was a little mis-leading as Matamata are no pushovers and in fact lead 14-8 late into the first half. A three try scoring burst with tries by Johnny Galloway, Jacob Ale and Kylem O’Donnell saw […]
On paper not a good week end as both the Premiers and the Development went down to Hautapu 21-16 and 20-14 respectively. Having said that the Premier game was a great game of rugby played at a high level as one would expect of two very good teams. We certainly had the better of the first […]
Well reading the final result a 37-13 win over Te Awamutu one would think a nice simple win. That does not tell the story of the first half where a string of penelties and some aimless kicking giving TA possession, could have seen us further behind than 11-13 at halftime. The TA goalkicker had a nightmare […]
Well this Saturday may well give us some indication of where we are at. Our first competition game for 2016 is against Te Awamutu away, with the Development team playing at 1.00pm and the A’s at 2.30. The local Te Awamutu paper has featured all their new recruits which appear to be quite impressive. Time will tell. Last […]
